What to Wear to Your First Pole Dance Class: A Beginner's Guide
Pole dancing relies on skin-to-pole contact for grip, which is why pole outfits look so minimal — it's function, not just style. Here's what you actually need for your first class.
Shorts are the one non-negotiable. Bike shorts work for your first few sessions, but as you progress, higher-cut shorts at the thigh give you better grip. High-waisted styles are popular since they also protect your back and stomach during floorwork.
A supportive top — a sports bra or fitted crop top. Skip anything loose; baggy tops ride up during inverts and hide your form from your instructor.
Bare feet are standard for beginners. Pole heels ("pleasers") come later, if at all.
Leave at home: jewelry (it scratches the pole), lotion or oil on your hands and legs (kills your grip), and anything baggy.
As you progress, you'll want proper pole sets — reinforced seams, non-slip waistbands, cuts that stay put through a climb. That's the whole idea behind Pole Addict: designed by a pole dancer, for pole dancers.
